U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to sue The Wall Street Journal after the newspaper published an article about an "obscene" birthday card that Trump allegedly sent to American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was later accused of sexually exploiting minors and died in custody.

"I told Rupert Murdoch (owner of News Corp, which includes the WSJ) that it's a fake and he shouldn't publish a fake. But he did, and now I'm going to sue him and his third-rate newspaper," Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal published an article describing a birthday card allegedly sent by Trump to Epstein.

According to the newspaper, the greeting from the future U.S. president was included in an album that Epstein's friend Ghislaine Maxwell compiled for the financier on his 50th birthday in 2003.

In the article, the card from Trump is described as "obscene."

The newspaper reports that it consisted of a few lines of typewritten text, written inside the outline of a naked woman's body, drawn by hand with a thick marker. "Happy birthday—and may every day be another wonderful secret," the greeting said.

"A couple of small arcs denote the woman's breasts, and the future president's signature—a wavy 'Donald' below the waist—mimics pubic hair," the newspaper stated.

"These are not my words, not my style. Besides, I don't draw," Trump wrote regarding the story.

During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump and his supporters repeatedly promised to declassify materials from the Jeffrey Epstein case, which allegedly contain a list of clients of the financier accused of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of minors.

However, after Trump took office, his administration stated that no such 'client list' exists.

In early June, during an online exchange between Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, Musk claimed that the president's name appears in Epstein's case files and that this is why they have not been released.

However, Musk later apologized for the post and deleted it.
