Trump Faces New Impeachment Push Over Iran Attack

Texas Democratic Congressman Al Green has introduced a resolution to impeach U.S. President Donald Trump for ordering military strikes on Iran without consulting Congress.

Green cited the U.S. Constitution, which grants Congress the sole authority to declare war. According to the resolution, Trump’s unilateral decision constitutes an abuse of power in the absence of any imminent threat to the United States.

The document argues that his actions undermine American democracy and pave the way for authoritarianism, The Hill reports.

Previously, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie criticized the strikes as unconstitutional, while Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the incident could serve as grounds for impeachment.

Meanwhile, Republican Congressman Buddy Carter has nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in mediating an agreement between Iran and Israel, Fox News reports. Carter described the U.S. president’s involvement as “extraordinary and historic” in helping bring an end to the Iran-Israel conflict.

Earlier, the government of Pakistan also nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his “decisive diplomatic intervention” in the India-Pakistan dispute.
