Tragedy Strikes Kentucky: Gunman Kills Two Women in Church

A Sunday morning turned into tragedy in Lexington, Kentucky, when a gunman unleashed a wave of violence that left two women dead and several others wounded.

The chaos began around 11:35 a.m. near Blue Grass Airport, where the suspect opened fire on a Kentucky State Police trooper during a traffic stop. After injuring the officer, the gunman reportedly hijacked a vehicle and sped away.

The rampage continued at Richmond Road Baptist Church, where the assailant stormed inside and began shooting at parishioners. Two women, aged 72 and 32, were fatally shot, and two men were wounded before police arrived and fatally shot the suspect.

Authorities believe the attacker may have known some of his victims, though the motive behind the horrific assault remains unclear.

Governor Andy Beshear called the incident heartbreaking and asked Kentuckians to keep the victims and their families in their prayers. Senator Rand Paul praised the courage of first responders, adding that violence like this “has no place” in the community.

The wounded state trooper and other injured individuals are being treated in the hospital. The exact number of casualties is still being determined as the investigation continues.

Police activity has affected access to parking at Blue Grass Airport, but flights are operating on schedule. The community has been left shaken by the senseless violence, as officials urge unity and support in the wake of the tragedy.
