Lawyers for Justin Baldoni claimed in a court filing that Taylor Swift has agreed to sit for a deposition in his ongoing dispute with Blake Lively over the film It Ends With Us.
According to their letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman, Swift is prepared to appear between October 20 and 25, though earlier dates are impossible due to her professional schedule.
Lively’s attorneys rejected that assertion the following day, saying there is no evidence Swift ever consented to testify and accusing Baldoni’s team of trying to use her name to fuel a media strategy.
The possibility of Swift’s deposition comes shortly after the October 3 release of her new album The Life of a Showgirl.
Earlier this year, Baldoni’s lawyers attempted to subpoena Swift for communications with Lively’s legal team but withdrew after objections.
Swift’s spokesperson denounced the move as “clickbait,” stressing she had “never set foot on the set,” nor had any involvement in casting, editing, or scoring the film.
Swift’s name surfaced in January in a defamation and extortion lawsuit Baldoni filed against Lively, later dismissed.
He alleged that Lively enlisted her husband Ryan Reynolds and Swift—whom he described as a “megacelebrity friend”—to pressure him into accepting script changes.
Text messages submitted in the case include Baldoni saying he liked Lively’s edits but “would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor,” to which Lively referred to the two as her “most trusted partners” and her “dragons.”
In February, Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman suggested Swift could be called as a witness if the case went to trial.
The deposition dispute is the latest chapter in a series of legal battles between the two stars.
Since December, Lively has accused Baldoni of harassment, retaliation and orchestrating a smear campaign, while Baldoni filed lawsuits against The New York Times and Lively herself, alleging defamation and extortion.
All of Baldoni’s lawsuits have since been dismissed.
