American Idol Music Supervisor Robin Kaye and Husband Thomas DeLuca Found Murdered

The Los Angeles community is reeling after renowned American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, musician Thomas DeLuca, were discovered dead in their upscale Encino residence on Monday. Both aged 70, the couple suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head, authorities confirmed.

Family members grew worried when the pair fell out of contact for several days, prompting them to request a welfare check on July 14. Responding officers arrived at the couple’s multi-million dollar home and immediately noticed blood near the entrance, according to reports. Forced to break a window to gain access, police found both Kaye and DeLuca dead inside. They were pronounced deceased at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Police currently have no suspects and have yet to determine a motive. The investigation is ongoing, an LAPD spokesperson told the press.

Video footage from the scene showed a shattered sliding glass door, hinting at the violent nature of the crime.

The tragedy has deeply unsettled neighbors in the tight-knit, celebrity-filled neighborhood. “They were a lovely couple,” said local realtor Hannah Massachi. “Why would anyone do this? We’re all shocked.”

Massachi, a resident for over 30 years, noted that Encino is typically considered a safe and prestigious area.

Just days prior to the murders, police had already been called to the property after a suspicious person was seen scaling the fence, possibly armed.

“My tenant called 911 after seeing someone jump the fence,” recalled neighbor Amee Faggen, adding that police and helicopters quickly responded but soon left the area. Whether this incident is connected to the homicides remains unclear.

Longtime pool cleaner Mauro Quintero was stunned when he arrived at the house for his usual visit and found the area sealed off by crime scene tape.

He remembered DeLuca mentioning a previous attempted break-in about a month earlier, when would-be intruders were scared away by the couple’s small dogs. Following that incident, Kaye and DeLuca installed security cameras and additional barriers.

“They were really kind people,” Quintero said, recalling only ever seeing the two of them at home.

DeLuca was a veteran musician, releasing his most recent album, "Street Rock," in 2022, and writing songs for notable artists such as Meredith Brooks and Kid Rock. Kaye, meanwhile, was an award-winning music supervisor, serving on American Idol for at least 15 seasons and earning multiple Guild of Music Supervisors Awards for her contributions to the industry.

Speaking at an awards ceremony in 2017, Kaye reflected on her profession: “It’s one of those roles in entertainment that people barely notice, but music is a crucial part of every film and TV show.”

As police continue their search for answers, the loss of the beloved couple has left the Encino community in mourning.
