Award-winning British actor Micheal Ward, best known for his roles in “Top Boy” and “Blue Story,” has been charged with several serious sexual offenses, London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed Friday.
Ward, 27, of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, is accused of two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault. The alleged incidents involve a single woman and reportedly took place in January 2023.
The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the charges following a review of police evidence. Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, leading the investigation, said specialist officers are supporting the complainant, acknowledging the significant impact such investigations can have.
Ward, who denies all allegations, stated: “I have fully cooperated with the police and will continue to do so. I trust that the ongoing legal process will clear my name.”
The actor is scheduled to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court in east London on August 28.
Ward rose to prominence for his performance as Jamie in the acclaimed series “Top Boy,” and was named BAFTA’s Rising Star in 2020.
He has since appeared in major productions such as “Empire of Light,” “Small Axe: Lovers Rock,” and the upcoming film “Eddington.”
Authorities remind the public and media that legal proceedings are ongoing, and reporting or online commentary that could prejudice the trial is strictly prohibited.
