Michael James Pratt, the New Zealand-born founder of the now-defunct porn website GirlsDoPorn, was sentenced Monday to 27 years in federal prison for sex trafficking.
Pratt pleaded guilty in June before a federal court in San Diego to one count of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and one count of conspiracy.
Prosecutors said he and his associates lured hundreds of women, many in their late teens, with false promises of modeling opportunities, then coerced them into adult videos.
The victims reported being supplied with alcohol and marijuana, rushed into signing unread contracts, and in some cases sexually assaulted or confined in hotel rooms until filming was completed.
Pratt was placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list after fleeing the United States, and was arrested in Madrid in 2022, three years after charges were filed.
His legal troubles began earlier, in 2019, when 22 women sued him and his partners, accusing them of fraud and breach of contract. A San Diego judge ruled in favor of the women, awarding $12.7 million in damages.
Several of Pratt’s co-defendants have already been sentenced.
Matthew Isaac Wolfe, who managed operations and marketing, received 14 years; producer and performer Ruben Andre Garcia was given 20 years; and cameraman Theodore Gyi received a four-year term.
