Pop star and actor Renée Rapp delivered a fiery onstage speech in Portland, Oregon, targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Donald Trump.
Performing in a city that has seen months of protests outside its ICE facility, Rapp interrupted her set to denounce federal authorities and the Trump administration.
“Some people who shouldn’t be here are,” she told the audience. “So let’s make a few things abundantly clear: Fuck ICE, fuck this administration, and fuck Trump.”
Her outburst came as Trump sought to deploy National Guard troops to Portland, calling it a “war zone.”
A federal judge later blocked the plan, extending a previous order.
Rapp, whose album Bite Me topped the UK charts in August, joined a growing list of artists protesting immigration crackdowns under Trump.
Chance the Rapper recently rapped “Fuck ICE” on his album Star Line, while Finneas, Tyler, the Creator, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Kehlani have all condemned ICE’s actions. Country singer Zach Bryan also faced backlash from the Department of Homeland Security after releasing anti-ICE lyrics.
Independent labels Epitaph and Anti- have demanded that Spotify remove ICE advertisements, saying artists “deserve platforms that reflect the values of the culture they sustain.”
Oregon’s Democratic leaders have opposed Trump’s rhetoric and troop plans.
“There is no insurrection, there is no threat to national security,” said Governor Tina Kotek.
Portland’s mayor Keith Wilson reaffirmed the city’s sanctuary status for immigrants, criticizing the “unconstitutional behaviour” of federal agents.
