Ex-policeman Derek Chauvin, convicted of killing African-American George Floyd, was stabbed in prison. Preliminarily, there is no threat to life.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is serving a prison sentence for the murder of George Floyd, was stabbed in a federal prison in Arizona on Friday.

Information about the assassination attempt confirmedby the office of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said an inmate at a prison in Tucson, Arizona, was stabbed on Friday, but the agency's statement did not name the victim.

Emergency doctors “executed life-saving measures” and then transported the inmate to a local hospital “for further treatment and evaluation,” bureau officials said.

According to NBC and the Associated Press, Chauvin was seriously injured, but according to preliminary data, he is expected to recover.

“We have been advised that he is expected to survive,” said a spokesman for the Minnesota Attorney General's office.

Previously, Russian media and telegram channels reported about Chauvin’s death, but foreign publications did not confirm this information.

Derek Chauvin is serving a concurrent 22.5-year sentence for the murder of George Floyd and 21 years for violating the victim's civil rights.

In May 2020, Chauvin knocked Floyd to the ground during his arrest and put his knee on his throat, holding him in that position for almost ten minutes and not allowing him to breathe.

After Floyd's death, BLM protests against racism and police violence began in the United States.
